Chandigarh: A senior Congress leader on Saturday sought a fund of Rs two crore each for all 117 MLAs of Punjab on the lines of the Local Area Development fund given to MPs for development activities.

Former minister Jagmohan Singh Kang, in a letter to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, said the MLAs are forced to "cut a sorry figure" every time the voters look at them for grants to promote sports, cultural and other activities.

Noting that states like Uttar Pradesh have started allocating development funds to legislators, he urged the Chief Minister to make a similar provision in the state.
