"Entire manifesto appears to be devoid of credibility and lacking seriousness. It is not a manifesto but a document of deceit. It is an insult of the people of India," Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said.

"They promise eight percent-plus growth in the manifesto... while the growth rate is 4.6 percent. Can there be a greater fraud?" he added.

Prasad also slammed the Congress for saying that it reduced poverty during its tenure.

"Whole statistics of poverty reduction is the biggest fraud of this government," he said.

Commenting on the issue of empowering minorities, the BJP leader said, "Only the elite Muslims have benefited from the Congress. What about the common Muslim?"

"This Congress manifesto is an insult to the people of India. The Congress manifesto appears to be devoid of credibility and bereft of substance,” Prasad added.

Prasad further said the Congress has destroyed the Indian economy.

Prasad also questioned the Congress’ claim to create 10 crore jobs.

“With what face do they say that they will create 10 crore jobs," he asked.

Earlier in the day, the Congress released its manifesto for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. The manifesto, which was released by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and party vice-president Rahul Gandhi, promises more investment in infrastructure, poverty alleviation, healthcare, inclusive development, pension schemes and other friendly initiatives.
