“Manifestos are sacrosanct but today's Congress manifesto was a joke! It repeated all the promises they haven't been able to fulfill since 2004,” Modi tweeted while responding to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi’s comment that her party’s manifesto was a sacred document and not a ritual

The Congress, which released its manifesto on Wednesday, promised to push economic growth rate to eight percent in the next three years, create 10 crore jobs and take firm steps to contain inflation. The party pledged to encourage Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and push Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Direct Taxes Code (DTC) within one year of coming into power.

The Congress also expressed its commitment to create a national consensus on affirmative action for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes for jobs in the private sector.
