Jaya Prada, 51, has been actively involved in politics since 1996 and won twice from Rampur constituency in Uttar Pradesh on Samajwadi Party ticket.

Born in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh, Jayaprada started her political career by joining Telugu Desam Party (TDP). But she switched loyalty to SP few years later.

Jaya Prada has been eyeing on Congress ticket ever since she was expelled from SP along with Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh following a latter’s spat with the party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Congress leader Begum Noor Bano, who had lost her traditional seat of Rampur to Jaya Prada, is happy over the development. Though no formal announcement has been made in this regard, the party is eager to start its new inning with the Bollywood actor-turned-politician.

Senior party leaders are in touch with local leaders of Moradabad over the issue and her name has been introduced in the panel of district committee. If everything goes well, she could join the party by end of this month. It is expected that the party will announce her candidature from the constituency in second list of candidates.

After declaring Jaya Prada’s candidature, Congress high command will consider candidature of Kazim Ali Khan alias Naved Mian, son of Begum Noor Bano from Rampur. If Jaya Prada gets ticket from Moradabad, the party will field Naved from Rampur.
