Bhopal: The Congress must take along with it Dalits, adivasis and minorities if the party wants to win the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections next year, senior party leader Aslam Sher Khan said on Tuesday.

These three sections of society had always been the "backbone" of the Congress in various elections, Khan told reporters in Bhopal. A meeting of representatives of dalits, adivasis and minorities would be held in New Delhi on December 26 to chalk-out a programme for their future, Aslam said.

To a question, the former hockey player also denied his leaving the party at this stage. In reply to another poser, Aslam said he was not made to contest the Assembly elections, but may stand for Lok Sabha polls if the party fielded him.
