New Delhi: Causing an embarrassment to the party amid series of election routs, Congress put ‘tainted’ Pune MP Suresh Kalmadi, an accused in CWG scam, on parliamentary duty but later removed his name terming it as a ‘clerical’ mistake after smelling the murmurs against the act from within and Opposition.

“Kalmadi’s name figured due to some clerical mistakes’ Congress leader, Girija Vyas said.

Suresh Kalmadi has been on bail for two months and arrived at Parliament to participate in the proceedings. Technically, being an MP, Kalmadi can be put on roster duty but owing to his alleged involvement in CWG scam, party simply tried to evade further embarrassment on the issue.

Earlier, Congress had removed Kalmadi from the Secretary post of parliamentary party after the financial irregularities surfaced in CWG 2010.

Since then, Congress has been keeping Kalmadi at bay to save itself from any further embarrassment except certain instances when leaders like Congress General Secretary Digvijaya Singh called Kalmadi his brother with ‘clean image’.
