Kolkata: After slamming the Trinamool Congress over renaming of Indira Bhavan, the Congress took potshots at the Mamata-led government for ignoring the plight of farmers.

Senior state Congress leaders categorically said that there is no improvement in the condition of farmers even after the ousting of the Left Front government in the state. They also alleged that the farmers in the state are forced to commit suicide.

Addressing a protest rally in Kolkata, Congress MP and state general secretary said, “The condition of the farmers in the state is the same as it was during the previous government.

The farmers are not getting proper price of their produces.” She also pulled up the state government for renaming Indira Bhavan.

The Congress stated that the party has no objection on Nazrul’s museum but it should be built elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Congress leader and State Irrigation Minister Manas Bhyun rejected reports of any hobnobbing with the CPM. He said that speaking against wrong policy of the government does not amount to hatching plot.

The party’s state unit has also supported Centre’s decision on FDI in retail and said that the move will benefit the farmers.

State Congress president Pradeep Bhattacharya warned Mamata of widespread agitations if the government failed to revoke its decision on rechristening Indira Bhavan.
