Demanding stern action against those found responsible for the mismanagement, Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee chief Nirmal Khatri said, "The manner in which Central funds for the Mahakumbh were spent on things other than mela management is most shameful. A high-level inquiry needs to be ordered into the irregularities and stern action should be taken against those responsible for it."

In its report on Mahakumbh Mela, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has criticized the Uttar Pradesh government for financial mismanagement of around Rs 800 crore, absence of co-ordination between different departments and lack of planning in traffic management during the last year's Mahakumbh Mela in Allahabad.
The CAG also made an adverse comment on the planning for managing the huge traffic in the Mela on the main bathing day on 'Mauni Amawasya' on February 10. Because of the mismanagement, the stampede at the railway station claimed several lives and the CAG report clearly states that the state government was responsible for it, he said.
Khatri said the state had been befooling everyone by claiming that the Central government was not giving adequate funds for the Kumbh but now the reality is out before the people.
