"Congress should not politicize a Naxal attack. This is not the time to say such things," he said.

Condemning the attack on security personnel by Maoists, Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi earlier on Tuesday lashed out at the BJP, saying it was their responsibility to avert such attacks.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh on Wednesday paid homage to the security men who were killed when Maoists sprang a deadly ambush on Tuesday. The attack took place close to the area where Naxals had killed top Congress leaders in 2013.

Shinde arrived in Chhattisgarh early on Wednesday and left for Jagdalpur with Raman Singh.

The Chhattisgarh government has ordered a high-level departmental inquiry into the Maoist attack in Sukma district, in which 16 people, including 15 security personnel, were killed on Tuesday.
