Ahmadabad: The cover story of the renowned Time magazine on Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi which drew flak from the Opposition and communal groups does not seem to settle down.

The Congress has accused the Chief Minister of allotting land to the American US carmaker Ford at throwaway prices due to which the Time Magazine carried a story on Modi.

While raising the issue of allotment of  industrial land at throwaway prices to various industrial groups, state Congress president Arjun Modhwadia on Tuesday in the Assembly accused the state government of selling 104 crore square meters of land to the industrial groups during 2006-2010.

Taking a dig at Modi, Modhwadia said, “Where the middle class and lower class families struggle to get 50-100 sq m of land for their survival, the Chief Minister is distributing land worth crores to industrial groups which are already flourishing.”

Modhwadia alleged that Puri Foundation was allotted 10 lakh sq m land in Gandhinagar  at a rate of Re 1 per sq meter, America’s Ford India was allotted 18, 63000 square meter land in Sanand at a price of  Rs1,100 per square meter, while L&T was allotted 8 lakh sq m land in Surat at Re1 per sq m.

Anticipating the discrepancies in the land allotment to Ford India and Modi featuring on the cover page of the Time magazine, the Congress has demanded a thorough probe by a retired judge to expose the ‘corrupt face’ of the BJP government in the state.

Meanwhile, the Centre has already ordered a probe into the matter.
