New Delhi: Sensing Chief Minister Mayawati’s trump card to call special Assembly session in November for discussing on the proposal of dividing Uttar Pradesh into four parts, the Congress has also become active with its demand for carving out separate Bundelkhand region.

Congress general secretary and UP in-charge Digvijay Singh said that if Mayawati wants to propose division of the state into four parts in the Assembly session, the Congress also wants formation of regions like Bundelkhand.

The BSP is expected to move proposal for dividing UP into north, central, west and Bundelkhand in the Assembly.

The BSP’s wish to split the state clearly indicates it political motive and the Congress does not want Mayawati to take lead in this matter.

According to sources, Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Chaudhary Ajit Singh and Digvijay Singh met in this connection.

Ajit Singh has always lobbied for converting western UP into Harit Pradesh and does not want Mayawati to take mileage of the situation. Observing the political situation, the Congress has supported Singh’s demand for re-structuring of the state.

Hinting towards division of UP, Digvijay said the Congress always wanted smaller states but we won’t let anyone to take political mileage of it.
