New Delhi: In order to improve the performance of the party, the Congress is all set to make a pre-poll alliance with Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) supremo and Baghpat MP Ajit Singh who is considered to be the fiefdom of the western Uttar Pradesh.

Congress leaders apprised the party high command of the RLD leader’s views regarding the alliance. After the party high command’s nod, the matter is now under consideration of the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Sources said if everything goes right, both the parties will forge alliance, Ajit Singh may be inducted in the Cabinet in the next reshuffling.

Meanwhile, the Congress general secretary and party in-charge of UP, Digvijay Singh along with party leaders from UP met the Prime Minister to discuss over giving Cabinet berth to Ajit Singh.

It is worth mentioning that Digvijay Singh has been entrusted with the task of making alliance with RLD.
Meanwhile, Congress general secretary and Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi also held discussion with all the senior Congress leaders of the state as well as Digvijay Singh.

According to sources, Rahul asked the state leaders not to make delay in the selection of party candidates for the next Assembly elections. The party is likely to announce the names of 100-150 candidates within a month.

After making alliance with RLD, the Congress will try to tie up with other smaller parties, sources added.
