Lucknow: Taking the bull by the horns, the Congress has decided to target the ‘Dalit ki Beti’ and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) before people regarded as ardent supporters of the ruling party in Uttar Pradesh.

Keeping the fact in mind that Dalits constitute for a major chunk of state vote bank, the Congress has decided to hold Dalit Panchayat in each division of the state to expose the tall claims of the BSP government.

A decision in this regard was taken in a meeting between senior Dalit leaders of Congress and party’s state president Rita Bahuguna Joshi on Sunday.

National Schedule Castes Commission (NSCC) Chairman and Barabanki parliamentarian PL Punia, former Minister Raj Bahadur, Mata Prasad, Baldeo Chaudhari, Ram Kishan and Ram Sevak Dhobi suggested the party should remained focused on issues related to Dalits.

Punia said, “Our party members should draw inspiration from Rahul Gandhi and visit Dalit dominated villages to share the grievances of the villagers.”

Division and district level Dalit panchayats will be organized in the different parts of the state state. The divisional panchayats will be organized at Allahabad and Lucknow on August 13 and 20 respectively.

The panchayats will highlight the growing atrocities on the Dalits and the people from economically weaker section under the tenure of BSP state government. The Congress will also use the opportunity to felicitate the Dalits members of the party.

Citing the example of farmers and weavers, the Congress leaders sought a bailout package for Dalits from the Centre. The Dalit leaders of Congress are planning to write a letter in this regard to the Prime Minister.
