New Delhi: Succumbing to the demands of its second largest ally TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, the Congress on Thursday decided to withdraw Abdul Mannan’s candidature for the Rajya Sabha election from West Bengal.

With Mannan withdrawing his candidature, the political bickering between the TMC and the Congress has come to an end.

Four candidates of the TMC and one candidate of the Left were elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha.

Mannan withdrew his candidature for the Rajya Sabha election following instruction from the party high command. As a disciplined soldier of the Congress, he withdrew his candidature on instruction from the party high command, Congress in charge-West Bengal, Shakeel Ahmed said.

"I also got a call from the state party chief Pradip Bhattacharya to do the same. There is no reason to find any difference between the party and me on the issue," Mannan said.
