New Delhi: In a bid to provide some relief to its office workers from the skyrocketing inflation, the Congress has hiked their salary by 20 percent. Congress president Sonia Gandhi has also given her nod to the decision.

The hike will be come into effect from this year’s March salary with the workers receiving the arrears in next month’s salary.

This decision has given relief to 120 Congress office workers. It is to be noted that the Congress party workers have been demanding raise in their pay for some time now. The Congress Union had also submitted a report in this regard to Congress cashier Motilal Vora following which a long discussion was held which failed to reach a consensus.

According to sources, some party workers had raised the issue and demanded an increase in their wage from the Congress president. They proposed a 20 percent increment in salaries which was immediately accepted by Sonia Gandhi.

Earlier, the salary of the party workers ranged between Rs 5,000 – Rs 30,000.
