New Delhi: The much-awaited political alliance between Ajit Singh-led Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and Congress for the upcoming UP Assembly polls is now hinges on the decision of the party high command Sonia Gandhi.

According to sources, if the party high command gives a green signal to this alliance, the RLD chief would most probably be with the Congress-led UPA government on Monday, and if the outcome is negative Ajit Singh may go it alone for the Assembly polls in the largest state of Uttar Pradesh.

Although there is no unanimity over the division of assembly seats and the allocation of Ministry for Ajit Singh at the Centre, the Congress and RLD are all set for the alliance,’ the sources added.

In this regard, there was a meeting held on Thursday between Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh, Congress Screening Committee Chief Mohan Prakash and Chaudhary Ajit Singh. However, no final decision was taken in the meeting, as there were differences over the list of candidates.

Both the parties are likely to arrive at a final decision on Saturday. It may be noted here that Congress will also hold a discussion on issuing the fourth list of candidates for the UP polls in the presence of Sonia Gandhi on Saturday.
