Siliguri: An arms consignment that is the biggest after the Purulia arms drop case in the state, West Bengal police has seized a large cache of arms from Kalchini area under Alipur doar’s subdivision.

The local police came across the arms while investigating the case of dacoity in a jewellery shop on September 9.

Special Inspector General, DT Lepcha confirmed the development.

 “During the raid in the Kalchini region of the Alipurdoar subdivision, one AK 47, one AK 56, 2 stain guns, 24 nine mm pistol, 270 rounds of bullet and 24 magazines were seized.”

In addition the gold which was looted from the jewellery shop was also recovered, he added.

Lepcha informed that the owner of the consignment has been identified as Pankaj Mishra, a resident from Bihar. He was accompanied by Pankaj Sarkar, Amit Kundiya and also a driver of Scorpio.

In the preliminary investigation it has been found that Mishra used to bring arms from Munger in Bihar and supplied it to several groups in North Bengal.

Lepcha said, “All the criminals have been taken into remand and interrogation is on. We are also investigating about any possible connection with any terror outfit.”
