Patna: Lying in limbo for over three decades, construction work started for the multi-purpose Durgawati reservoir project in Bihar's Rohtas district.

Bihar Water Resource Minister Vijay Kumar Chowdhary said that foundation of the project was laid by the then Union Agriculture Minister Babu Jagjivan Ram in 1975, but for various reasons nothing moved.

Decks for the project were cleared only last year after the Union Ministry of Environment and Forest granted its clearance.

He said that the state government would like the mega irrigation project to be completed in two years for irrigation of 33,467 hectares in Rohtas and Kaimur districts.
