New Delhi: The Delhi Government on Monday decided to enhance financial assistance for building and construction workers in the city leading to hike in the finance aid to the women workers from existing Rs 1,000 to Rs 10, 000 during their maternity period.

The decision to this effect was taken in a Cabinet meeting presided by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit here on Monday.

Dikshit analyzing all the recommendations made by the experts committee constituted under the Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1996 announced enhancing the financial assistance to these workers for improving their living conditions.

The government has also increased monthly pension to Rs 1,000 per month from existing Rs 150. Besides this the pension holders will be liable to get Rs 110 from the existing Rs 10 after five years of their service.

The Delhi government has decided to provide construction labourers an advance of Rs 1.5 lakh instead of current Rs 50,000 for purchase of house.

Moreover, it has also increased disability pension to Rs 1,000 per month from existing Rs 150. In the event of accident leading to disability during employment, the worker will get financial assistance of Rs 25, 000 instead of current Rs 5,000.

A female worker will also be eligible for financial assistance of Rs 10,000 for her marriage while in case of a male worker, the amount would be Rs 5,000. Similarly, a worker will get an assistance of Rs 10,000 for daughter’s marriage and Rs 5,000 for the marriage of son.

The family of the worker in event of his death will get Rs 5,000 from the existing Rs 1,000 for conducting last rites.

The kin of a worker in the event of his normal death will get an assistance of Rs 50,000 instead of current Rs 15,000. If the worker dies during his employment period due to any accident at the workplace, then his family will get Rs 1 lakh instead of the existing Rs 50,000.

Besides this the workers will also get a financial grant of Rs 5,000 every five years for buying tools. Moreover, the loan amount of Rs 5,000 for purchasing tools has also been enhanced double-fold for the workers.

All the financial assistance will be provided under Building and other Construction Workers Board.
