Gurdaspur: The continuous rise in the level of Satluj and Vyas rivers has wrecked havoc in Hathar region of Ferozepur district. Dozens of villages in Hathar and Hargobindpur are inundated. Vast stretch of agricultural land has been swallowed by the flood resulting in destruction of standing crops.

The continuous release of water from Harike Barrage has lead to flood in certain region of Ferozepur district.  On Saturday evening, the water level at Harike barrage reached to 75, 314 cusecs as of which 55,786 cusecs of water was released. Meanwhile Rajasthan feeder released 11,000 cusecs and Ferozepur feeder discharged 8300 cusecs of water.

Due to the release of water from barrage, the low lying villages like Gatti Harike, Dhulewala, Ghumriwala are completely swamped. Many villages of Hargobindpur are caught in the grip of Vyas River. The villagers of Balarwal, Samrana, Rampur and Talwara informed that nearly one acre of land has been destroyed by incessant water release.

Tehsildaar Harvinder Singh Gill said that flood rescue operation is in full pace. People who are caught in flood water are being rescued. Soon survey will be done to evaluate the loss of standing crops.
