The controversy erupted when it was recognized that instead the name of noted former vice-president and Hindi poet Ashok Chakradhar, the name of Aam Aadmi Party leader and poet Kumar Vishwas was printed on the invitation card of the event.

There are reports that Vishwas could be the next vice-chairman of the Hindi Academy. Sources said that Chakradhar has refused to attend the convention.

Chakradhar said that he sent his resignation from the post of vice-chairman to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on December 28. However, he received no reply from the Chief Minister’s Office in this regard, added Charkradhar who wrote to Kejriwal again on December 31. He also informed Vishwas about the same.

Hindi Academy Secretary Hari Suman Bisht said that there is no formal confirmation about Kumar replacing Chakradhar as vice-chairman.

“As far as the name of Chakradhar is concerned (on the invitation card), this is not the first time. When Vimlesh Kant Verma was vice-chairman, Chakradhar’s name was printed on the invitation card. There is nothing serious in this.”

The post of vice-chairman of the academy, which comes under the Delhi government, is an honorary post and the appointment is done by the CM's office.
