Amritsar: The Attari border between India and Pakistan has become a safe haven for smugglers who are involved in the illegal activities and transferring the counterfeit notes and narcotics like heroin.

Recently police have busted a racket involved in the malpractices along the Attari border. The police arrested Kanwaljeet Singh and Sunil Kumar for carrying fake currency worth Rs 38,000 and 250 gram banned drug, heroin.  Acting on the information provided by the accused, the police arrested Kabal Singh from Baharwal village, Mahinder Singh from Rajojke, Balbeer Singh and Baldev Singh. The police recovered counterfeit notes amounting to Rs 1 lakh and 1.5 kilograms of heroin.

Tracing the extensive network of the illegal activities along the border, the police later detained Nirvair Singh from Rankewal village and Mandeep Singh. Huge quantity of heroin worth Rs 9 crore was seized from them along with the fake Indian currency amounting to Rs 295,000.

SSP Gurmeet Singh Chauhan said that a gang was being run by Baldev Singh alias Deba who is a truck driver. 

Meanwhile, with the temperature going down, militant infiltration from across the border has posed challenges for the Indian military forces. As per the intelligence report, 40 terrorists are trying to infiltrate the border.
