New Delhi: Nation's first fully automatic multi-level parking space near south Delhi's Sarojini Nagar market is ready and will be thrown open to public on November 10 by Union Urban Development Minister  Kamal  Nath.

Sports Minister and local MLA Ajay Maken and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit will also be present during the inauguration ceremony.

Apart from construction of this automated multi-level parking, arrangements have been made to stop illegal parking in the vicinity of the market. New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) and Traffic Police will deploy two cranes each to pick up illegally parked vehicles.

Notably, NDMC was engaged in construction of this parking which can house 824 cars. The construction was over in October after which trial of automated  machines began.

The 10-storeyed parking lot has lifts and automatic machines which will carry cars from one place to another.

Officials claim that after this multi-level parking space, residents of the area will be relieved from frequent jams. However, the NDMC has earmarked few places for those who wish to park their vehicles for some time.

NDMC spokesperson Amit Prasad informed that after completion of work at Sarojini Nagar, a multi-level parking space will start at Connaught Place.

“Officials from the Fire Department have already inspected the parking space located at Connaught Place for which a certificate is awaited,” he said.

However, the deadline for both the parking spaces to become operational was June 30 this year. The NDMC had awarded the work for both parking lots on BOT (Build Operate Transfer) basis.
