Chandigarh: Rejecting a petition for additional security, Punjab and Haryana High Court cleared that there is no need to set up a separate tribunal in states to hear security demands by civilians.

The High Court gave this ruling after a clarification from the administration of Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh in this context.

Haryana government said that some recommendations for additional security cover have been accepted.

Putting its view in the case, Chandigarh administration said that as per the directions of Union government, security is provided to individuals and added that administration reviews the details in such conditions.

On the matter, Punjab Government said that the state already has a high power committee to provide security which is working effectively hence there is no need of separate security tribunal.

A petition was filed in the High Court by Raghubir Singh saying that security to him was denied by Punjab Government despite receiving a death threat.
