It has been learnt that Chief Metropolitan Magistrate SV Parekh asked all the seven respondents, in an application filed by advocate Davinder Singh Rakkad to file their responses by August 21, when the case is expected to be taken up for hearing again.

In his complaint, Davinder Singh Rakkad mentioned, “Promos of the popular quiz show being telecast widely on Sony Entertainment TV channel shows lawyers and their profession in a derogatory manner.”

Besides, Rakkad also called for legal action against the producer of KBC – Siddharth Basu, host Amitabh Bachchan and several others, who are associated with the show. He demanded all of them to be charged under Section 500 (defamation) and other provisions of the Information Technology Act.

In order to add teeth of his case, Rakkad also presented a CD containing visuals and transcripts of the promo’s dialogues.

Rakkad in his complaint pointed his objection to a scene in the promo, wherein an advocate screams ‘I object’ while pounding his hand on the table in a court room when another co-lawyer says, “First, let the court proceedings begin.”

Talking about other scenes, Rakkad said that it’s quite ‘derogatory’ to depict lawyers like that and it would generate a negative message amongst the people about the legal profession.
