Court orders in-camera trial

Delhi’s Saket court ordered in-camera proceedings in the hearing of the gang rape case following an "unprecedented situation" in the courtroom. The court also restrained the media from publishing any news related to the case without court permission.

The four accused, who were produced before Metropolitan Magistrate Jyoti Kler on Sunday after the expiry of their 14-day judicial custody were asked to be produced again on Monday. Accused want to be state witness

On Sunday, two accused in the brutal December 16 gang rape expressed their desire to become witnesses on behalf of the state in the case. Two accused Pawan Gupta and Vinay Sharma told the court that they wanted to be witnesses in the case and refused to take the service of legal aid counsel.

The two other accused in the case, Ram Singh and his brother Mukesh requested legal aid for their defence.

Turning accused into approvers?

Meanwhile, the legal experts opined that the desire of two of the six accused to turn into state witnesses is just a maneuver adopted by them to avoid punishment for their heinous crime.

According to legal advisors, there is no need to turn them into approvers as the police have ample evidences that are strong enough to bring all the six accused to justice.

Both the accused Pawan Gupta and Vinay Sharma had pleaded before a Delhi court for death penalty for their brutal crime.
