New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar said that former Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chief and MP Suresh Kalmadi, who is presently lodged in Tihar jail, would be able to attend monsoon session of Parliament only if court allowed him to do so.

The Speaker said Kalmadi has written to her seeking permission to attend the monsoon session of Parliament.

“We have received the letter. There is a legal process going on. It is for the court to decide whether Kalmadi should be allowed to attend Parliamentary proceedings," Meira Kumar added here on Friday.

Meira who came to attend the 5th conference of SAARC Speakers and Parliamentarians in Delhi had to face volley of questions related to the resignation of MPs on the Telangana issue. She was also bombarded with questions pertaining to allowing Kalmadi to attend Parliament session. Queries on Public Accounts Committee's report also hounded her.

In response to a question, she made it clear that in case of MPs, the decision of the Parliament is supreme, but since Kalmadi’s case is in court, hence he has to get permission from there before attending the session.
The Speaker also denied media reports that DMK leader and former Telecom Minister A Raja also had written a letter to her seeking a similar permission.

However, Meira Kumar refused to talk on non-acceptance of PAC report on 2G scam presented to her by BJP MP and PAC chairman Murli Manohar Joshi.
