"We saw Modi addressing an Independence Day gathering as if he was speaking at a street-corner meeting. He should have avoided that," CPI national secretary D Raja said.

"Independence Day does not belong to one party or one government. It belongs to the people and it is a moment of joy and celebration," he said.

“Modi should have addressed the people of Gujarat in a dignified manner explaining what his government has done or wants to do," he added.

In his Independence Day speech in Bhuj, Modi talked of a 'serial of Saas, Bahu and Damaad', an oblique reference to Robert Vadra's relationship with Sonia Gandhi.
