New Delhi: The CPI (M) has called for 12-hour bandh in South Kolkata against the alleged killing of its student wing leader Sudipta Gupta in police custody. The Kolkata Police has made adequate measures to avoid any untoward situation.

Meanwhile, Mamata on Wednesday termed the incident as "unfortunate", but evaded a question on whether a judicial probe would be ordered into the death as demanded by the CPI (M).

Sudipta Gupta, an MA student at Rabindra Bharati University, was admitted to hospital with severe internal haemorrhage and later succumbed to his injuries. Gupta was part of a protest organized by the SFI against the postponement of college elections. The incident has led to thousands coming out on the streets of Kolkata to protest against the incident.
