Shimla: The youth wing of the CPI(M) has launched a campaign against the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association's move to get the sprawling 'Annandale' ground back from the Army to develop it as a cricket stadium.

Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) demanded that the Annandale ground should be utilised for multiple purposes like Dussehera festival and sports competitions as it was done in the past.

It alleged that the campaign of the HPCA, headed by MP Anurag Thakur, has been motivated by vested interests.

"It is the only place where natural environment prevails and once it is handed over to the HPCA it will become their fiefdom where the people and the youth will be forced to watch from a distance," DYFI said.
