Kolkata: The Election Commission has sought report from the West Bengal government for alleged violation of Modal Code of Conduct by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who is contesting from Bhowanipore in the state by-polls.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) secretary Biman Bose in a letter to Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal, Sunil Gupta has alleged that Banerjee violated the Model Code of Conduct by promising jobs to youths at a rally in Kolkata on August 28.

It is worth mentioning that Banerjee had announced to prepare student brigade and provide them government jobs on the foundation day ceremony of the TMC’s Student Wing.
The ceremony was held after the notification for Bhowanipur and Basirhat North Assembly segments was announced by the Election Commission.

Sources in the Writer’s Building said State Chief Secretary Samar Ghose has not responded to the letter in connection with alleged breach of code of conduct.

Gupta said the DO is investigating into the matter whether CM’s statement amounts to the violation of Model Code of Conduct or not. He has been asked to submit the report by Friday.

The Left Front is leaving no stone unturned to give a tough fight to the CM in the by-polls.

Banerjee is contesting the Bhowanipore seat to enter the Legislative Assembly within the stipulated six months as she is not a member of the House. The polling is scheduled for September 25.
