Kolkata: Senior Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Robin Dev raised question over the role of the Election Commission. He alleged that even though the ruling Trinamool Congress is violating Model Code of Conduct in the South Kolkata Parliamentary by-poll, the constitutional body remains a mute spectator.

It is worth mentioning that CM Mamata Banerjee vacated the South Kolkata parliamentary seat after she won from Bhawanipur assembly segment.

Dev said, “Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi unveiled a health project in BR Singh Railway Hospital on Sunday but Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s photograph was published in newspaper advertisement.”

The CM also announced the construction of film city on the occasion of Kolkata film fest opening ceremony, added the CPI (M) leader.

Left Front delegation led by Dev on Friday submitted a memorandum to the Chief Electoral Officer Sunil Kumar Gupta. The delegation sought action against the TMC for violating Model Code of Conduct.

Banerjee herself visited the Bhawanipur police station and suspended some officials on November 6.

Taking cognizance in this regard, the Election Commission has ordered a probe into the allegations.
