Kolkata: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) is passing through a bad phase as it has to swallow the humiliation of debacle one after another. But the latest tactics of Trinamool Congress to start a recruitment drive of 5,000 Junior Constables from the region has given sleepless nights to the Marxist leaders.

The CPM leaders were puzzled after a recent bulletin published by West Bengal Recruitment Board for the recruitment of 5,000 Junior Constables as the preference has been given for those youths who belong to the regions suffering under Left extremism.
It may be noted that the police department is controlled by Chief Minister rather than the Home Ministry. And the recruitment drive is considered to be the latest Trinamool tactics to further corner the Left parties.

Raising doubts over the government’s intentions and the purpose of the advertisement, former CPM MP and eminent politician Mohammad Salim said, “This is a well-planned conspiracy of Mamata Banerjee to harm the reputation of the CPM but we will not sit calmly on the issue.”

The advertisement clearly mentions that the people terrorized by the Left violence in West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia districts are eligible for the recruitment. The regions of Belpahari, Lalgarh, Binpur, Salbani, Kharagpur local, Keshiari under West Midnapore district, Ranibandh, Sarenga under Bankura district and Bandwan, Baghmundi under Purulia district have been marked for the recruitment.
Mohammad Salim said they would organise a special meeting under the CPM leadership to discuss the issue. However, leader of Opposition Suryakant Mishra is also chalking out a strategy to oppose the move.

The leaders feel that through this exercise the Trinamool Congress is sending a wrong message among the people by putting the major Left parties at par with Naxalites and Maoists.

The state government has so referred Maoism and Naxalism at Jungle Mahal as the ‘Left Wing Extremism’ but this is the first instance when it equated it with Left violence.

It may be noted that the TMC has been stating that during 35 years of Left regime the CPM cadres have eliminated hundreds of their opponents to establish the Left dictatorship. And the discovery of human skeletons in West Midnapore has been cited as an example of Left violence by the TMC after coming to power.

As many as 17 persons including former CPM Minister Sushanta Ghosh have been arrested in the skeleton case.
