Gwalior: The race to take the credit for the installation of Madhavrao Scindia’s statue between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress has delayed the unveiling ceremony. The project has been funded by Gwalior Municipal Corporation and as the BJP has the majority in the general house of the local urban body, the party members are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to take the credit.

Meanwhile, the Congressmen have been striving hard to term it as a tribute to their leader. Owing to the ongoing bickering between the two political rivals, the name of chief guest for the function is yet to be finalized.

The episode has come to light when the state Congress leaders decided to invite Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Jyotiraditya Scindia for the function. Following their request, Jyotiraditya Scindia gave his consent for the ceremony.

However, miffed over this issue the BJP leaders opined that the Congress would reap benefits of the ceremony.

The BJP leaders expressed their annoyance with Mayor Samiksha Gupta. Following which, the work was stopped at the site where the statue had to be installed.

As a result, the ceremony was postponed. As per the new schedule, unveiling ceremony will take place at 7 pm on October 20. Meanwhile, the Congress leaders are busy with the preparation for the unveiling ceremony. The Scindia faction is striving hard tomake the ceremony a success by drawing maximum number of people to the venue.

BJP leaders said the Mayor has not taken the party leaders in confidence while formulating the programme.

Distancing itself from the entire episode, the BJP indicated that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan would not attend the ceremony. However, possibilities are that the party’s state unit chief and Rajya Sabha Member Prabhat Jha may attend the function.
