"Going by the manner in which a doctor couple was kidnapped for ransom from Gaya and released upon payment of money in Lucknow, it is clear criminal gangs of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh have merged post-merger bid among the Janata Parivar constituents of the two states," senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi told reporters.

Observing that the crime rate has gone up in Bihar, particularly kidnapping for ransom, ever since Chief Minister Nitish Kumar took RJD's support to run his government, he said Bihar would be plunged into days of 'Jungle Raj' or 'Aatank Raj (reign of terror)' if the Janata Parivar was voted to power.

Referring to the kidnapping of the doctor couple, Modi said the chief minister was busy in Delhi for his merger mission and police was clueless about the matter for five days despite availability of credible information about the role of a particular gang.

Modi further slammed the state government for transferring the Magadh Zone DIG Pradeep Srivastava hours soon after he had told the media that the doctor couple's safe return could not be technically called rescue act by the police.
