The university had issued notification regarding the examination on 15th January 2014. The CUSAT CAT is mandatory for admission to M.Sc, B.Tech, M.Tech and 5 year B.Com LLB (Hons)/ 5 year BBA LLB (Hons) courses in the Cochin University.

The CUSAT has a total of 3 campuses in Kerala- Thrikkakara (Main) Campus, Lakeside (City) Campus and the Pulinkunnu Campus. However, CAT 2014 will be conducted in Varanasi, Trichur, Thodupuzha, Thiruvananthapuram, Ranchi, Pathanamthitta, Palghat, New Delhi, Mumbai, Malappuram, Lucknow, Kozhikode, Kottayam, Kota, Kollam, Kolkata, Kasaragode, Kannur, Kalpetta, Jamshedpur, Hyderabad, Ernakulam, Dubai, Chennai, Bangalore, Alleppey and Allahabad, and also Kerala.

Originally founded in 1971 as the University of Cochin, CUSAT was renamed in 1986 as Cochin University of Science and Technology and remains one of the best universities in Kerala.
