New Delhi: Asserting that public procurement is vulnerable to corruption, the Central Vigilance Commission has suggested more accountability and probity by all departments concerned in this domain.

The CVC has chosen 'Transparency in Public Procurement' as theme for this year's vigilance awareness week which began on Tuesday.

"Public procurement encompasses procurement of goods, works and services by all public organisations. Public procurement is an activity vulnerable to corruption. While lack of transparency and violation of laid down procedures needs to be curbed, steps are also required to ensure fair competition and objectivity in selection assuring value for money.

"Therefore, the Commission's effort is to emphasise transparency, accountability and probity in public procurement," the anti-corruption watchdog said in its message.

Observance of vigilance awareness week every year is an effective outreach measure for inclusive participation of citizens and stakeholders. The vigilance awareness week will end on November 3.

Central Vigilance Commissioner Pradeep Kumar along with other senior officials on Tuesday took pledge to fight against corruption during a function to mark beginning of vigilance awareness week.
