New Delhi: An emergency meeting of the newly constituted Congress Working Committee (CWC) on Saturday paid tribute to veteran Congress leader Arjun Singh, who died on Friday after a cardiac arrest.

The meeting, chaired by Congress president Sonia Gandhi, passed a resolution describing Singh as a symbol of secular values in Indian politics. It was said Singh always fought against communal forces.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and other leaders expressed their condolences.

Party General Secretary and media department chief Janardan Dwivedi said Singh's body would be taken to his home town Churhat in Madhya Pradesh where the last rites would be performed on Sunday.

Senior party leaders Pranab Mukherjee and Mohsina Kidwai will attend the cremation.
