Kasana from Uttar Pradesh and Khaira from Punjab decided not to participate in the final competition in Glasgow’s Hampden Park after both finished sixth in their qualifying rounds on Friday to seal their positions in the final.

Their mystifying absence from the final round of the javelin throw competition has shocked the Indian sporting fraternity with many former players slamming the duo for showing disrespect to the Indian tri-colour.

At a time when both of these athletes refused to participate in the finals, discus thrower Vikas Gowda battled rainy conditions at Hampden Park to win India another gold medal. Seema Punia also won silver medal in the women’s discus competition.

The Indian athletic contingent at the Commonwealth Games managed to win three medals as Arpinder Singh won a bronze medal in the triple jump competition.

The Commonwealth Games concluded on Sunday amidst lot of fan fare and a glittering closing ceremony.
