New Delhi: Commonwealth Games Organising Committee‘s (OC) former Secretary General Lalit Bhanot and Director General V K Verma were arrested by CBI on Wednesday. Arrested in connection with the CWG scams, the two are closest aides of sacked OC chairman Suresh Kalmadi.

Deputy Inspector General of CBI Bineeta Thakur told reporters that the two had been arrested and would be produced before a designated court on Thursday.

To a question whether Kalmadi would also be arrested, she said, "Let us wait and see. It’s all a matter of investigation and we cannot say anything right now."

The two officers had allegedly abused their official position and entered into a criminal conspiracy with foreign firms and other unknown persons, she said.

"They cheated the government in awarding contract to the said company for acquiring TSR System at exorbitant rates of Rs 107 crore," Thakur added.

Bhanot and Verma were earlier called for questioning at the CBI headquarters here.

CBI had registered a case against the two under sections 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 420 (cheating) of IPC and various sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, along with Switzerland-based firm Swiss Timing Ltd and other unknown persons.

The CBI has already arrested seven people in connection with alleged irregularities in overlays supply and Queen's Baton relay event.
