New Delhi: As part of probing the irregularities found in CWG, the CBI on Thursday carried out nationwide searches and registered fresh cases against agencies involved in the restoration and renovation work of stadiums and bridges.

An eight-member team led by S R Majumdar, SP of anti-corruption cell of CBI, raided two locations of a Kolkata-based construction company, Simplex Infrastructure Ltd and grilled senior officials.

The agency sleuths also raided another location of the company in Kolkata and interrogated P K Mishra, vice chairman of Simplex Infrastructure Ltd. The CBI collected several important documents.

According sources, the company paid bribe worth crores of rupees in order to bag contract for constructing stadiums, bridges and parking areas.

The CBI also conducted raids on the premises of functionaries of the agencies involved in renovation of Talkatora and Shivaji stadiums and registered three fresh cases.

The restoration work on Shivaji Stadium could not be completed during the Commonwealth Games despite huge costs incurred and question marks were raised about the escalation of the cost in the renovation of Talkatora stadium, sources said.

Regarding the appointment of consultants, the CBI is trying to ascertain whether the professional profiles of the consultants, mentioned in the CWG OC records were true.
