New Delhi: After the arrest of sacked CWG Organising Committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi, Congress is shying away from shielding Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. Playing a safe game in response to the increasing tirade of the Opposition against the Delhi CM, Congress has now shifted the ball in the court of Home Ministry.

Congress spokesman Manish Tewari said, “We will be able to comment on the issue of Dikshit only after Home Ministry arrives on a conclusion in the matter.”

After the arrest of Suresh Kalmadi in the CWG scam, opposition parties have targeted Dikshit and demanded her resignation. In a defensive response, Congress which has been emphasising on making no comprise with corruption, said the party will wait for Home Ministry’s response.

Reacting on Kalmadi’s statement that Sheila was more responsible for misappropriation of funds of the CWG, Tewari said, “The Shunglu committee has already submitted its report and the Delhi Government has also given its report to the Home Ministry.”
However, Tewari lashed the BJP for demanding Sheila’s resignation.

According to sources, Congress is playing a double game by sidelining itself from the Kalmadi issue. It is becoming more evident by the fact that the party is talking tough on corruption and on the other end not much importance is being given to Kalmadi’s statement.
It is also believed that as Kalmadi was turning rebel, it had become extremely important for Congress to maintain a distance from him to maintain the party’s image. The fact was clearly evident as Congress sacked Kalmadi from the party soon after his arrest.
