New Delhi, (JNN/Bureau):  Former Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor also had a share in the Commonwealth pie. Tharoor was paid thirty thousand dollars (Rs 13.50 lakhs) for rendering ‘valuable advice’ to the Organizing Committee, even though the minister did not actually do so.

The documents related to the games in possession of Jagran have revealed that Tharoor took the payment in an HSBC account in Dubai while he gave his residential address near Park Avenue, NewYork. The OC has no answers as to why a Central Minister was paid in foreign currency.

The documents have clear cut evidence that the OC headed by Sueresh Kalmadi, had already decided over the appointment of an advisor at least a year ago, i.e., July 9, 2008. And also, Tharoor was intimated of his appointment on July 24, 2008, even before the Executive Management Committee gave its nod for the appointment which is mandatory. This nod was taken later, on July 31 from the management committee.

The papers also reveal that between September 2008 and January 2009 Tharoor advised the committee for a mere twelve days, but he was paid thirty thousand dollars on the basis of 2500 dollars per day. Not just this, the entire expense of his stay at the Taj was also undertaken by the OC.
