Allahabad: To promote use of bicycle as a preferred mode of commutation and keep a check on environmental pollution, scores of city residents from all walks of life on Saturday took out a "cycle rally".

The rally started from Colonelganj area near Anand Bhavan and concluded at Civil Lines area.

The cyclists, many of whom were students, chanted slogan 'cycle chalao paryavaran bachao' (ride the bicycle to save the environment) during the rally.
Earlier, inaugurating the rally, Municipal Commissioner Prem Nath Dubey hailed the effort and said, "residents of the city, who are now faced with an ever-increasing problem of traffic congestion and atmospheric pollution, must seriously consider the option of cycling for short distances."

Students also expressed enthusiasm over the initiative and one of them said, "riding a bicycle is always fun. Parking a cycle is also so much simpler and easier. Since it requires no fuel, it is easy on the pocket".
