New Delhi: In a pro-active move to motivate the electorate to cast their votes for Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) polls on April 15, the Election Commission has planned to launch a comprehensive awareness drive via its interesting advertisement progrmme. For this the EC has taken Salman Khan starrer 'Dabang' movie as its base. The commission is sure of its success in creating awareness amongst the masses regarding the power to exercise their franchise.

The advertisement says, "Street lights in my area gets repaired before I register complain, I am Delhi's Dabang. It's your vote, your power that works." Making it more appealing the advertisement has been presented in different forms depicting civic woes faced by the people and their solution which lies in voting.

Informing about the motto behind the 'Dabang’ advertisement, the State Election Commissioner Rakesh Mehta said, “Generally, the poll percentage remains low in municipal elections. In last elections the polling was less than 50 percent and was only 30-34 percent. High poll percentage is required to strengthen the foundation of democracy."

“To create awareness amongst the masses the advertisement is being promoted through newspapers, television, radio and other mediums," said Mehta.

More so, EC has also recorded songs to create awareness. The main feature of the song is that a child asks his parents to cast their votes. Other advertisements related to the election awareness will be broadcasted from April 1 and street plays will be organised in 136 wards.
