Amritsar: Radical Sikh outfit Dal Khalsa on Tuesday criticised the move to arrest cartoonist Aseem Trivedi on charges of sedition.

Terming the sedition law as "outdated, objectionable and obnoxious", Dal Khalsa head H S Dhami alleged that there has been continuing misuse of the law, and asked the parliamentarians to scrap it.

Hailing Trivedi for not seeking bail for himself, Dhami also slammed the civil society, accusing it of being selective when it came to raising an issue.

The 25-year-old cartoonist was arrested on September 8 under IPC Section 124 (sedition), Section 66 A of the Information Technology Act and Section 2 of the Prevention of Insults to Nation Honour Act.

The freelancer has been accused of putting up banners mocking the Constitution during a rally of anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare in Mumbai late last year, and posting the same on his website.
