Muzaffarnagar: Tension gripped Tigai village in the district after Dalits blocked the Delhi-Dehra Dun national highway protesting alleged murder of a Dalit woman, police said on Tuesday.
The protestors, who blocked the highway on Tuesday, claimed Anju was set afire on October 21 by four persons after she was found cutting trees from a jungle, police said.
Case of attempt to murder and Prevention of Atrocities Act (POA) has been registered against Ali Hasan, Jamir, Shamshad and Zakir in connection with her death, they said, adding, they are absconding.
However, according to police, Anju's house caught fire on October 21 in which she sustained burn injuries and succumbed in hospital on Tuesday.
Security has been beefed up in the village to ease the tension following Tuesday's protest.
