Lucknow: The Dental Council of India (DCI) is mulling over a plan to put a check on the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) degree holders who have earned their degrees from foreign universities. Now, as per the new rules the BDS and MDS degree holders before the registration will have to sit for an examination and only after qualifying it they will be registered to get their degrees.

Besides, if any aspirants are going to any foreign country to get degrees, then the permission from the SCI would be necessary.  In this regard, the student will have to submit the complete details of the college to the Council. Professor AP Tikku Dental Expert for ‘Scrutinizing student appearing in the screening test for foreign degree’ committee member said, “The DCI has decided to take this step in view of cavity control”.

The six member committee was constituted six months back. As the number of students persuing degrees from foreign universities is increasing, the committee decided to take this step.
