Lakhs of people have been affected after the swollen Brahmaputra and Jingiram rivers submerged over 300 villages. Around 85 relief camps have been set up in the region. Low-lying areas like Rajabala, Chibinang, Selsella, Tikrikilla, Charbatapara and Pushkurnipra are still inundated.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and paramilitary forces have been pressed into the rescue operations. The government is providing safe drinking water and other essential commodities like rice, dal and salt to the people in the flood affected ares.

However the Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi was quoted as saying by media, “We are taking all relief and rescue measures in the flood-hit districts.”
