Few central leaders are also eyeing on this post. Delhi BJP workers could not select its state chief and now they are awaiting the decision of the central leadership.

It is being said that the party leadership will decide soon whether Satish Upadhyay will retain the post or someone else will take responsibility.

The BJP leaders say that taking into account next year's municipal elections, the state president will be selected. So, Satish Upadhyay's bid to retain the post  is gaining momentum. Upadhyay has been active in municipal politics.

His supporters are lobbying for him for the top post. On the other hand, his rival groups are raising the issue of BJP's humiliating defeat under his leadership during 2015 Assembly elections.

They said that the Aam Aadmi party is a major challenge for BJP in the national capital, therefore a person who is ready to take it and can motivate the party workers need to be appointed to lead the party.

Pawan Sharma is considered to be the main contender among others. Sharma has already served as Delhi BJP general secretary. Many RSS leaders are also recommending his name for the post.

East Delhi MP Mahesh Giri, South Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri and West Delhi MP Parvesh Verma are among the tough contenders for state BJP chief.

However, some senior BJP leaders are in of view of appointing a central leader to end factionalism in Delhi BJP unit. Despite, BJP national general secretary Anil Jain, national secretary Shrikant Sharma and Mahendra Pandey are also in the race.
